The Policing and Community Safety Authority held its first Authority meeting in public in Dublin on Thursday 29 May.

Members of the Authority discussed several policing issues with Acting Garda Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Shawna Coxon, and senior officers.

The meeting opened with a minute’s silence for Garda Kevin Flatley, who was killed at a traffic checkpoint in Dublin in May.

There were brief opening remarks on transnational organised crime, roads policing, and homicide investigations.

The three main topics up for discussion were community policing, the protection of children, and conduct, discipline and individual performance management.

The meeting was streamed live and is available to watch on the PCSA YouTube channel.

The next public meeting will take place on Thursday 31 July.

Meanwhile, the PCSA is running a major public consultation on setting the Policing Priorities for gardaí for 2026-2028.

Members of the public, gardaí and community organisations have the opportunity to share their views on how policing resources should be allocated in this country.

As part of the process it is hosting a series of in-person consultations with stakeholders from around the country and meeting hundreds of gardaí from every division.

The PCSA is also asking the public to submit their priorities in an online tool, which remains open until 8 June and takes just a few minutes to complete.
