The Authority met yesterday afternoon to discuss a single agenda item – “Recent motorway incidents and related policing and community safety matters”.
The purpose of the meeting was to consider a number of policing and community safety matters in the aftermath of recent incidents of dangerous driving seen on the M9, M50 and N3, among others.
The Authority also considered its role and responsibility to promote public awareness of matters related to policing services and to promote interagency collaboration and community engagement to improve community safety.
As a result of its discussions, the Authority has included an item for discussion with the Commissioner at its meeting on 24 September entitled “criminality and harm on Irish roads and the challenges of keeping communities safe”.
While September’s meeting was scheduled to be in private, it was agreed that it would now be streamed live to allow the public to observe the Authority’s engagement with the Commissioner on this matter.
