PCSA welcomes new Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly

The Policing and Community Safety Authority welcomes the appointment of Deputy Commissioner Justin Kelly as Garda Commissioner and congratulates him on his appointment.

Following the announcement, PCSA Chairperson Elaine Byrne said: “We will work with Commissioner Kelly on our shared goal of ensuring a modern and professional police service that enjoys the support and trust of the Irish people.

“Being responsible for the delivery of an effective, ethical and efficient policing service is one of the most important jobs in the State, from keeping people safe in their homes to tackling organised crime and safeguarding national security.”

Commissioner Kelly’s first meeting in public with the Policing and Community Safety Authority will take place on Thursday 25th September 2025.

Ms Byrne also paid tribute to the outgoing Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.

She said: “I wish to thank Drew Harris for his leadership over the past seven years and for the dignified manner in which he performed his functions as Garda Commissioner. We wish him and his family well for the future.”
