The Policing and Community Safety Authority met in public with the Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly in Midleton, Co Cork on Thursday 30 April.
The meeting at the My Place Community Centre opened with a focus on the policing of the recent fuel price protests.

There were questions on the garda response to the protests, the adequacy of their training and resources, and the intimidation of officers.
The Commissioner and senior officers also faced questions on the challenges and opportunities of policing in Cork County, as well as the impact of high-visibility policing.

The meeting concluded with an examination of the response to domestic violence in rural Ireland.
The questions focused on the levels of underreporting of abuse, the importance of the first contact with victims, and the adequacy of garda training to handle such cases.

Over the past month, PCSA staff and Authority members met local gardaí and community organisations across County Cork to hear about their experience of policing and being policed.

The next meeting of the PCSA and Garda Commissioner will be in private on Thursday 28 May.
The next meeting in public will be in Dublin on Thursday 26 June.
